Jo Grant (Doctor Who)
1.) Reading an exellent book, as I am at the moment, is very cheering to the spirits. My train of thought goes something like this: "This is a great book. It surely cannot be unique in its greatness. Thus the world must contain many great books for me to discover. Therefore I deduce that the world is a wonderful place." Then I have to go and have a lie down until the Pollyannaish feelings wear off. (The book in question is Connie Willis's To Say Nothing of the Dog; I heartily endorse this product. It may help at this juncture for you to imagine me with two thumbs up, grinning widely, but I will quite understand if you prefer not to.)

2.) I have been watching a fair bit of Red Dwarf recently. I decided to try and catch up with all the episodes I never saw when it was on the telly by starting at the beginning of series three (having probably definitely seen the repeats of serieses 1 and 2) and proceeding from there in an orderly fashion. Apparently I've not seen nearly as much as I thought I had, because I've just finished series six and could only say with any certainty that I'd seen two of the episodes before. But this is all to the good as it is like having LOVELY NEW STUFF to watch. Anyway. The DVDs are great, they also get a hearty endorsement due to having many excellent extras: I always save the smeg ups for last as they are usually the best bit. The series six DVDs had a feature about the music which has a) inspired me to try and learn how to play the theme tune on the piano (Howard Goodall made it look so easy! But then he is v. good at the piano and I am a bit rubbish) and b) made me look forward to 'Blue' very much, as just a tiny clip of the Rimmer Song made me laugh like a hyena. Also I now have a new addition to my Red Dwarf Commentary Drinking Game.

3.) *reads over this post* I do talk a lot of nonsense, don't I? Oh well, hopefully it is entertaining nonsense.
Bernice Summerfield (Doctor Who)
Since I have just spent approximately forever clicking on the little pictures to get ones I like, here is an exciting collage of my LJ/DW interests. Some things I had to get rid of because there was NO PICTURE for them, WOE.

no, not that sort of Avon/Ultraviolet/Vila etc etc )

Er, that is all I have to say. I keep thinking I have things to post about but this keeps turning out not to be true. Now I am going to go and huddle in front of my heater for a bit. *shivers*
Seven, Ace and Hex (Doctor Who)
1.) Wrote and submitted my pitch for Big Finish's opportunity for new writers thing over the weekend! It is not that great, but I think it follows all their rules, is reasonably in character and is mostly punctuated correctly, so should hopefully not be the cause of too much headdesking. I know a few other people on my flist have sent in pitches too - good luck, everyone!

2.) Last night I picked up a knitting project that I hadn't work on for a couple of months. Within three rows I'd made a huge mistake that needed lots of unpicking to make right. Why you do these things, self?

3.) I listened to the latest Big Finish audio, A Thousand Tiny Wings, over the weekend. It was fantastic. spoilers )

4.) QI was great this week! As was The News Quiz, which had two female guests for the second week in a row. Since the chair (the wonderful Sandi Toksvig) is also female , that meant more women's voices than men's, hurray! This may sound like a small thing, but the The News Quiz is about the only thing I can say this of, out of all the things I watch/listen to (except deliberately women-focussed things like Women's Hour, obvs), so... yeah. More like this, please!
The Book Of The Still (Doctor Who)
Here are the books I read in January:

Eight, Fitz and Anji (Doctor Who)
I finally got round to watching Terminator 3! I sort of had negative expectations for it, which helped me not hate it. Also I kept being distracted by the internets (they were right there!) so I didn't really watch all that much of it, heh. Obv. it is not a patch on T1, T2 or SCC.

anyway here are some spoilers )

Now I go to finish [community profile] trek_news and answer comments and such.
Buffy (Doctor Who)
Here is that meme about TV that's been doing the rounds. Yes, it has indeed taken me approximately forever to fill in. There are many questions and much wittering was required.

Four and Leela (Doctor Who)
1.) Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] eponymous_rose!

2.) I have just finished (re)watching The Robots of Death, which I liked rather a lot: some as-I-went-along observations under the cut:

Four and Leela (Doctor Who)
1.) Hello internets! I have been away all weekend and am just now catching up. (Three hundred and eighty six unread items in my google reader, you say?) I had the day off on Friday and I went to Cardiff with Jess and Vanky. First we went to the museum and learned about the history of Wales from about 400 million years ago, but we only got as far as the dinosaurs when we had to run off and have lunch, because we were going to see Robin Hood (avec John Barrowman) in the afternoon. IT WAS ACE. Barrowman was great (despite having a cold; when he did the "thank you for coming" bit at the end he looked very pale and pasty, poor thing) and so was the actor playing the Sheriff - his evil laugh was PERFECT. There was singing and dancing and general hijinks, and cross dressing (hurrah! I was worried that there wouldn't be any) and double entendres (and single entendres) and a DRAGON, and a random ice skating interlude, and also an entirely unexpected slightly pointless spoiler cut here, since half the joy was the unexpectedness ). And a good time was indeed had by all. Then we went back to Cheltenham (which was handy for Jess and Vanky, since that is where they live) and had a lovely meal out with Emily and Dale. And then I spent the rest of the weekend hanging out with my parents (and also, briefly, with [personal profile] silly_cleo, yay!). We watched Ice Cold in Alex, which was really good: very tense in places, and nicely nuanced. And we spent most of Sunday playing games. Good times.

2.) Here is a Being Human reaction type thing:

wif weevils. Sorry, spoilers. With spoilers )

3.) Someone please tell me why I shouldn't buy this ring, please? (Answers of "but Jenni, you don't know your ring size, it might not fit" are acceptable.) It's so pretty! All my other rings are silver or haematite! Jo Grant is my style icon and thus I am in the market for more rings! Also if you could persuade me to spend tomorrow afternoon cleaning the kitchen instead of going to see Sherlock Holmes again I would appreciate it.

4.) ARGH THE DRILLING MAKE IT STOP. Oh, it has stopped. Never mind, then.
The Book Of The Still (Doctor Who)
I am very tired. Here is a meme about BOOKS.

Four and Leela (Doctor Who)
1. Have just watched The Face of Evil. LEELA LEELA LEELA! :D

spoilers! )

2. I currently have no hot water, which is a little irritating. Luckily my shower runs on a different system so that still works. Plus all this washing my face in cold water is probably doing wonders for my complexion.

3. My Short Trips books arrived! (Apart from the sold out ones, alas.) Unfortunately it transpires that in all the excitement I accidentally ordered one I already have. Nice going there, self. So would anyone like to buy a copy of Seven Deadly Sins for £5? Or alternatively, swap for one of the Short Trips that I don't have yet, or something else Who-ish, or, well, anything you think I'd like! Gone!

4. And now it is time to watch Lark Rise to Candleford and eat cake.

Today is More Joy Day! And here therefore is a picspam, since I am constitutionally incapable of ignoring an opportunity to post one. For any picture without commentary, just assume TINY HEARTS.

[livejournal.com profile] help_haiti is a fandom auction raising money to help Haiti recover from the earthquake. I'm offering a crocheted scarf; there are many other things on offer, and they also have a post with suggestions of places to donate.
Martha Jones (Doctor Who)
1.) Finished (re)watching The Hand of Fear last night. Woe, no more Sarah episodes! (But yay, nearly Leela tiem!)

spoilers )

2.) Also I watched Law and Order: UK and Ping-Cho from Marco Polo was in it! I love TV.

3.) Changed my layout last night: [personal profile] shinyjenni. I didn't really do much other than use one of their standard ones, but I did fiddle with some of the colours and bump up the text size a bit to make it readable. I wish I knew enough CSS to code a layout from scratch!
Buffy (Doctor Who)
1.) Being Human is back! spoilers )

2.) Best thing about snow? The "Your Pictures" section on the BBC website. *browses happily*

3.) I was skimming through my copy of About Time 4 last night, looking at which stories are on their way, when I noticed that instead of page 311 they've printed page 11 again. Disaster! I don't suppose any of you have a copy and would be willing to scan or photocopy the relevant page? I would be v. grateful! Otherwise I'll try and have a moan at Amazon...

Seven, Ace and Hex (Doctor Who)
Snooowwwww. We had about three or four inches overnight, and I walked to work with it crunching and creaking under my feet, lovely. (Here is a picture I took on my way to work.) On the minus side it was freezing at work: yesterday was the first day back after Christmas and something had gone wrong with the heating, so it didn't even get switched on until nearly lunchtime, and it was only just beginning to warm the building a little today. So yesterday we were all huddled in our coats (and, in my case, my knitted armwarmers (NB I do have a little finger, but it is not pictured here)) shivering, and today wasn't that much better. But on the plus side the library closed early, so I went home at 4.45 instead of 7.30 and have been spending the evening reading all the lovely things in my [profile] fandom_stocking and grinning all over my face. ♥

[personal profile] yhlee wrote me a lovely Buffy and Angel ficlet
[profile] shannonsequitur made me two fab icons
[personal profile] netgirl_y2k wrote me a great Liz and Jo at Christmas ficlet
[profile] cosmic_llin wrote me Jadzia introducing Kira to the joys of dabo, ♥
[personal profile] calapine wrote me Gentlemen of the Universe, with Eight and Harry, squee!
[personal profile] cosmic_celery wrote me James Bond is Not a Time Lord (or, I make fun of George Lazenby), in which Eight and Fitz watch some Bond films, yay!
[personal profile] eponymous_rose wrote me a gorgeous Grace and Romana fic: Part 1 | Part 2
[profile] glinda_penguin made me an awesome fanmix, which I am listening to right now!
[personal profile] ghost2 wrote me adorable Ace/Hex fluff
and [profile] cidercupcakes wrote me a brilliant Buffy/Middleman crossover
plus various messages and greetings :D

As a result I am feeling v. warm and fuzzy at the moment. Thank you, everyone!
Eight, Fitz and Anji (Doctor Who)
1.) Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] littledarkvoice!

2.) I got back to Bristol today, after spending Christmas at my parents, to find a lovely pile of cards waiting for me, so thank you to [livejournal.com profile] agapi42, [livejournal.com profile] oxymoron67, [livejournal.com profile] rosalind_wang, [livejournal.com profile] cosmic_celery (I love the art! ♥) and [livejournal.com profile] ghost2 (eee, such a cute picture inside!). I also had a mysterious unsigned card from someone somewhere in the UK (postmark sadly indistinguishable), so if that was one of you, thank you too!

3.) Cannot stop listening to Ben Lee's Awake is the New Sleep, it's so catchy!

4.) Apparently there is going to be a film of Rosemary Sutcliff's The Eagle of the Ninth. I heard about this a while ago and thought it had died a death, but it seems not. I am afraid I am incapable of being rational about this turn of events and can only keep going "WAH MY CHILDHOOD NO". The Romans are going to have American accents! They will not sound like what they do on my tape! Sadface! No, no, none of this. I shall be sensible and hope that it is any good at all and people read the book because of it. (MARCUS NOOO! They haven't even cast Cottia yet! D: Look, at least I know I'm being irrational, right?)

5.) So far 2010 has involved games, nice food, books and playing Beatles Rock Band. I approve.
The Book Of The Still (Doctor Who)
Happy 2010, everyone! Whether your 2009 was fab or rubbish, here's hoping that 2010 is better in every way!

Here is a list of books I read in 2009:

from Band of Gypsies to Palimpsest )

Right, back to comparing the books LibraryThing thinks I have to what's actually on my shelves. HI I'M A NERD.

- Happy belated birthday, [livejournal.com profile] stoplookingup! Hope you had a great day.

- Oh dear, I really am terrible at posting during the holidays. Here are some things what I have been doing:

1) Saw Sherlock Holmes. Loved Sherlock Holmes. only minor spoilers )

2) Had lovely people round last night, played games and also watched the first three episodes of Maid Marian and her Merry Men (apologies to anyone who will now have the theme tune in their head for the rest of the day). This is by far the best version of Robin Hood ever and I defy anyone to tell me otherwise. YES.

3) Working on stuffs for [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking, somewhat hampered by my inability to write ficlets without getting carried away and going on and on and on.

4) I have done other things but either I have forgotten about them or they are uninteresting to people who are not me, so there we go.
