shinyjenni: Leela smiling (leela joy)
Had a fairly graphicsy weekend: as well as the icons I posted on Sunday (btw, other graphicsy people on my flist, I really recommend [community profile] fandom20in20! We're voting in round eight at the moment, so sign-ups for round nine should be going up soon), I also redid my livejournal layout a little, because I was fed up of trying to read tiny grey text. Though that didn't actually take much graphics work as I kept the same header, just changed the colours and added in Amy.

Also I made a new Romana/Leela wallpaper, in a fit of "new Gallifrey next year!" excitement.

Full size version! (1280x800)

(On the off chance anyone would like a version in a different size, give me a shout and I shall try and resize it.)

shinyjenni: Wonder Woman deflects bullets with her bracelets (the wood between the worlds)
A couple of things I made for [community profile] three_weeks_for_dw; it's been three weeks since I posted them, so I can link them here now! Anon/Open ID commenting should be enabled on both, unless I have messed something up (entirely possible).

1) Leverage ensemble mood theme! (The one I've been using on this journal recently.)

2) Fifteen Whoniverse icons, all eras. A few Amy/River, some other people. Teasers:

Hurray, I finally finished it! (There may have been a lot of muttering along the lines of "why on earth is 'exanimate' a mood when 'unimpressed' isn't?" over the last few weeks.)

(And in case anyone was wondering, the character breakdown went something like this: Parker - 28%, Sophie - 19%, Eliot - 19%, Hardison - 15%, Nate - 12%, Tara - 6% and Maggie 1%. So now you know.)

- SJA today was WONDERFULNESS, even more so than usual. spoilers and babble )

- Alert alert alert: Now Show tickets available! Anyone want to go?

- I read Earth Abides while I was on holiday (a book about a plague that wipes out almost the entire population of Earth, not exactly a cheery pick but the book pile must be obeyed) and am rather torn about it. On the one hand, it was very well written and developed, and the tone was nicely melancholic without being too depressing, but on the other hand, the attitudes towards gender, race and disability were, well, skeevy is putting it mildly. Ack.

- I have many things to do tonight and tomorrow, none of them were or are "make a new wallpaper for the laptop", and yet... The picture was posted on Shakesville a few days ago and as soon as I saw it I wanted a wallpaper of it, it is just a great image.

shinyjenni: Ace talking to Mel (ace and mel)
SO BUSY TODAY. The PGCE students were in and they were busily printing and returning books and borrowing more. Alas, I seem to have knackered my wrist a bit so moving books around is a bit painful if I twist it the wrong way. It's not stiff or swollen or anything, so I've probably just slept on it funny and it'll sort itself out in a day or two, but until then, ow ow whinge moan complain.

I saw Antony and Cleopatra on Saturday! It was a great performance, if slightly too long. The woman playing Cleopatra was very good, the whole thing came to life in her scenes. I liked the fact that they had the same actors playing Antony, Lepidus and Augustus as in Julius Caesar, it gave a nice continuity to the whole thing. Also, the costumes were pretty and the drunk scene was hilarious. Afterwards, we went back to my flat and played games and watched Iron Man. I love that film.

I spent Sunday afternoon watching the last three episodes of The State Within - I saw it when it was originally broadcast, but I spent episode one trying to learn to crochet and missed episode two altogether, so it was a bit hard to follow! Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed it. spoilers )

Also this weekend, I made a new wallpaper for my computer, yay. Doctor Who related, of course.

1. Stephen Fry has a podcast, y'all!

2. I am back from my holidays, they were lovely. I took my photos in to be developed today and will stick a link to them here once I get them all uploaded and stuff, but until then, here are some words instead.

For the first week I went to Ystalyfera in South Wales with friends from university. The weather was frankly atrocious; it was tipping it down when we arrived (after a bit of a palaver trying to actually find the place which involved some rather hairy manouevring and asking several locals for directions) and it didn't stop raining for more than about half an hour until Thursday lunchtime, a shame, since the cottage came with about 20 acres of land to explore. But on the other hand, it was a great cottage and I was more than happy to spend the entire week playing games and watching DVDs, most of which I'd seen before, but never mind: Hot Fuzz (we watched this on the second holiday too, heh), The Prestige and American Beauty, the only one I hadn't seen before and which I would quite happily never see again, pretentious codswallop, I felt, though to be fair it really isn't a genre I have any interest in at all. But otherwise, week full of joy and fab people that I don't see enough of and dingbats and racing demon and such.

For the second week I went to Swanage, one of my favouritest holiday places EVAH, with school friends; the weather was far better, no rain at all and we even managed to swim in the sea on the first day. (We also had a visit from Polly and Diege for the first night, which was all kinds of shiny.) It clouded over a bit after that, but we stil did stuff - we walked out to Dancing Ledge past Tilly Whim caves and the Large Globe (oh English place names, how I love thee), and took the steam train to Corfe Castle. Also lots of playing games, again, and there was SingStar! I was rather at a disadvantage due to a) not being a very good singer (I butchered Beautiful Day on purpose cos I hates it, 'kay?) and b) not knowing most of the songs, but it was still MAD FUN, especially the shouty bits in Parklife. And we watched Labyrinth again: as the trailer promised, it does indeed give you the Imagination of Jim Henson, the Wizardry of George Lucas and the Excitement of David Bowie.

Both holidays included an impromptu murder mystery and I got to do three terrible accents (Russian, American, French) since my character in the first one unexpectedly turned out to be Secretly American halfway through. Hurray! We also ate very well on both holidays - if any of you are ever in Swanage I recommend the Corner Restaurant - which I am trying to replicate at home, I made an apple cake earlier and now I am roasting a chicken for my supper, om nom nom nom.

And we even managed to spin out the last holiday by stopping in Bath on the way back. We wandered around in the sunshine (best weather of the holiday) looking at the pig sculptures. Bliss.

3. In other news, I want to make some icons/headers/wallpapers etc. but am feeling terribly uninspired in terms of both content and style, so am now taking requests, general or specific, for graphicy stuff - I will happily have a go at making pretty much anything (within reason) though with the caveat that I won't necessarily be able to make something that's any good at all. And of course you would not be required to use whatever I did make :)

4. When I was thinking about this post yesterday I definitely had a fourth thing to say but now I have NO IDEA what it might have been. Le sigh.

Hello birds, hello sky! Hello livejournal! I have had a v. busy weekend and then been ill, making me go into extreme lurker mode. (Apologies for all the days-late comments I have been/will be leaving, btw.) But now I am back and with a wallpaper to share, since one of the things I did at the weekend was schlep all the way to Patchway and back (three hour round trip by bus and shank's pony! Very occasionally I wish I knew how to drive) and pick up my new laptop. Anyway, wallpaper!

widescreen companiony header )

Possibly not of interest to anyone but me, what with it being widescreen and featuring only my favourite companions, but I'm quite proud of it, so I thought I'd share. (also, if anyone fancies a version in a different size/colour/with different companions, give me a shout and I will have a go. Help me alleviate my guilt about all the companions I had to leave out!)

Other things I did at the weekend: saw Indiana Jones! I loved it quite a bit. spoilers and relentless positivity ) And on the way to the cinema I stumbled into a second-hand bookshop and emerged clutching four Dr Who books, because I don't have enough of them already *sigh*.

And then there was a Eurovision party, at my parents' house since they are in France, with school friends and UNEXPECTED SISTER, which is always nice. The songs were much fun, the voting not so much. Bosnia-Herzogovina's knitted grannies were a highlight, as were the Latvian pirates and whichever one it was that started off with all the men in a box (Armenia?). But I don't think Russia deserved to win - their song wasn't bad, just a bit blah, though it did have ice skating man who looked a bit like Owen Wilson. I had Georgia and Germany in the sweetstake, so I knew before the voting began that there would be no sweets for me, again, neither song was that bad, though Germany were out of tune, or key, or something, and given how little ear I have for music if I can tell that there's something amiss, then it must be pretty wrong. But neither were particularly memorable either. I didn't think that we (the UK) deserved to be last either, it was quite a good song, especially compared to some of the things we've fielded in previous years. Anyway, never mind, there was chocolate and pringles and wine and a good time was had by all.

Apologies if I am making even less sense than usual. My brain is still a bit fuzzy from my cold and there are approximately 8694067 people in the library all of whom want things. And my coding kept going wrong. :(
