1.) Thank you to the lovely anonymous person who bought me a month of paid time! I don't know who you are, but I know you are GREAT. ♥

2.) I watched Strange Days last night, on [livejournal.com profile] the_smut_fairy's recommenedation, and it was very good. I wasn't sure at first that it was going to be my sort of thing, but I was wrong. The more I watched, the more invested I got in the characters - I don't think I have ever hoped so desperately for a film to have a happy ending before. and now I shall cut for spoilers )

shinyjenni: Wonder Woman deflects bullets with her bracelets (ian & barbara)
1.) Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] littledarkvoice!

2.) I got back to Bristol today, after spending Christmas at my parents, to find a lovely pile of cards waiting for me, so thank you to [livejournal.com profile] agapi42, [livejournal.com profile] oxymoron67, [livejournal.com profile] rosalind_wang, [livejournal.com profile] cosmic_celery (I love the art! ♥) and [livejournal.com profile] ghost2 (eee, such a cute picture inside!). I also had a mysterious unsigned card from someone somewhere in the UK (postmark sadly indistinguishable), so if that was one of you, thank you too!

3.) Cannot stop listening to Ben Lee's Awake is the New Sleep, it's so catchy!

4.) Apparently there is going to be a film of Rosemary Sutcliff's The Eagle of the Ninth. I heard about this a while ago and thought it had died a death, but it seems not. I am afraid I am incapable of being rational about this turn of events and can only keep going "WAH MY CHILDHOOD NO". The Romans are going to have American accents! They will not sound like what they do on my tape! Sadface! No, no, none of this. I shall be sensible and hope that it is any good at all and people read the book because of it. (MARCUS NOOO! They haven't even cast Cottia yet! D: Look, at least I know I'm being irrational, right?)

5.) So far 2010 has involved games, nice food, books and playing Beatles Rock Band. I approve.

shinyjenni: Polly dressed as a mermaid (underwater menace)
After much dithering, last night I finally worked up enough annoyance to get out of bed, put some clothes on and go out into the cold and the dark to ask my neighbours to turn their music down, (my flat is self contained, so it involved going into the Outside) after they apparently decided that midnight was a good time to turn it up. But of course the music was so loud they didn't hear me ringing the doorbell so I might as well not have bothered. Instead I gathered up my duvet and my trusty clock radio and went and slept in the sitting room where it was quiet. BAH.

Happier thoughts: I am going to visit Hetty on Thursday; Mark and Rach are going too and it should be a shiny weekend of Eurovision and yummy foods, yay! Today the post brought me Worrals on the Warpath and a crochet hook all wrapped up in pink tissue paper with a butterfly sticker on it (♥). Yesterday there was Barrayar and Sorcery and Cecelia, both of which I am really looking forward to, although there is currently a ten month delay between me buying a book and me reading it, woe. Currently I am reading The Scar, which is really really excellent.

Bill Bailey's Remarkable Guide to the Orchestra I highly recommend to anyone who hasn't seen it yet, especially if you are [livejournal.com profile] sparra. It should be on the iplayer for UK types and is definitely worth watching! The Swan from Carnival of the Animals played on tuned Alpine Bells is one of the funniest things ever, plus there's a new version of Docteur Qui, and Insect Nation with a full orchestra! If you have ever wanted to see Bill Bailey lick a theremin, this is the program for you.

I watched The Ice Warriors! It was a bit of an unusual experience as I didn't know anything about it going in, no received fannish opinions, no scenes to watch out for, nothing beyond "it contains Ice Warriors". Now I know that it also contains mild spoilers )
