shinyjenni: Polly dressed as a mermaid (underwater menace)
1.) I am thisclose to renouncing Being Human, since this season in general and the last episode in particular have been doing a great job at destroying everything I liked about it in the first place. All the warmth and humour seems to have evaporated somewhere along the line. Also spoilers )

2.) I watched the new Doctor Who trailer, I am not sure if this is really spoilery but shall cut anyway ) Also am not entirely sold yet on Matt Smith, I am sure he will be fine but I am still stuck on what a boring casting decision it was. "We can pick anyone in the WHOLE WORLD to replace this skinny white guy. I KNOW, how about a YOUNGER skinny white guy! Because we hardly ever see people like that on the tellybox!" I will probably get over this eventually.

3.) OH and re. the most recent episode of The Three Companions, did I really hear Polly say that spoiler ) If so, squee! and also details, please?

1.) Hello internets! I have been away all weekend and am just now catching up. (Three hundred and eighty six unread items in my google reader, you say?) I had the day off on Friday and I went to Cardiff with Jess and Vanky. First we went to the museum and learned about the history of Wales from about 400 million years ago, but we only got as far as the dinosaurs when we had to run off and have lunch, because we were going to see Robin Hood (avec John Barrowman) in the afternoon. IT WAS ACE. Barrowman was great (despite having a cold; when he did the "thank you for coming" bit at the end he looked very pale and pasty, poor thing) and so was the actor playing the Sheriff - his evil laugh was PERFECT. There was singing and dancing and general hijinks, and cross dressing (hurrah! I was worried that there wouldn't be any) and double entendres (and single entendres) and a DRAGON, and a random ice skating interlude, and also an entirely unexpected slightly pointless spoiler cut here, since half the joy was the unexpectedness ). And a good time was indeed had by all. Then we went back to Cheltenham (which was handy for Jess and Vanky, since that is where they live) and had a lovely meal out with Emily and Dale. And then I spent the rest of the weekend hanging out with my parents (and also, briefly, with [livejournal.com profile] silly_cleo, yay!). We watched Ice Cold in Alex, which was really good: very tense in places, and nicely nuanced. And we spent most of Sunday playing games. Good times.

2.) Here is a Being Human reaction type thing:

wif weevils. Sorry, spoilers. With spoilers )

3.) Someone please tell me why I shouldn't buy this ring, please? (Answers of "but Jenni, you don't know your ring size, it might not fit" are acceptable.) It's so pretty! All my other rings are silver or haematite! Jo Grant is my style icon and thus I am in the market for more rings! Also if you could persuade me to spend tomorrow afternoon cleaning the kitchen instead of going to see Sherlock Holmes again I would appreciate it.

4.) ARGH THE DRILLING MAKE IT STOP. Oh, it has stopped. Never mind, then.

1.) Being Human is back! spoilers )

2.) Best thing about snow? The "Your Pictures" section on the BBC website. *browses happily*

3.) I was skimming through my copy of About Time 4 last night, looking at which stories are on their way, when I noticed that instead of page 311 they've printed page 11 again. Disaster! I don't suppose any of you have a copy and would be willing to scan or photocopy the relevant page? I would be v. grateful! Otherwise I'll try and have a moan at Amazon...

shinyjenni: The Fifth Doctor cupping his ear (five)
I thought yesterday was pancake day: apparently it's not til next week, but I had pancakes anyway. As mistakes go that's a pretty good one. While I was cooking (and eating) I listened to The Destroyer of Delights, which was very enjoyable: incredibly funny (I do love Five best when he's all beleaguered, annoyed and sarcastic) and well written. So far, thumbs up on the Key to Time trilogy, let's hope the last story doesn't let it down. The trailer made it sound fantastic, so that's a good start.

I watched Dollhouse at the weekend and was distinctly underwhelmed. It just seemed a bit empty: the dialogue wasn't as snappy as I was hoping (if I'd gone into it cold I'd never have guessed it was a Joss Whedon show) and the plot didn't really engage me at all. Also although I like Eliza Dushku and thought she was great as Faith I don't think she's got the versatility to play Echo - one of the things that's impressing me about Alias is Jennifer Garner's ability to take on other personas, and Eliza Dushku doesn't seem to have that, based on the pilot episode. I feel like I should give it another episode or two before I judge it, but I'm not sure I can be bothered. Bah.

Caught up with Being Human, too, which I really like but with the fairly major caveat that I can't stand George, to the point that I can't watch his scenes some of the time. Mostly it's that he hits my embarrassment squick so much: he reminds me of Mark Heap's roles in Green Wing (where I fast-forwarded through his scenes) and Lark Rise to Candleford (where I can cope as long as he's not carrying the episode). It's just a character type that I find hard to watch. Aside from that, it's great - I like Annie, love Mitchell, squee over the Bristoly bits and giggle at the jokes.

I bought a copy of Worrals Flies Again on eBay the other day - I'm only about 50 pages in but so far I love it, Worrals is so capable and confident and generally great. (The title of this entry is how she describes finding out that I suppose this is technically a spoiler ) I think I shall have to try and get some more of these. (No, Amazon! I did not mean "Worrall"! Take your cookery away!) I really wish they had been reprinted more, partly so they'd be easier to find now but also so ten year old me could have read them. *shakes fist at silly publisher types*
shinyjenni: Wonder Woman deflects bullets with her bracelets (four and his scarf)
I was reading SFX this morning over breakfast, as I am wont to do, and I found a rather dismaying piece on Being Human. Apparently the series is a reboot rather than a continuation, and both Annie and Mitchell have been recast, no news on with whom yet but younger actors were mentioned (sigh). The thing I liked the best about the pilot was the chemistry between the three leads so this makes me a bit not happy. It seems it will be a bit more BBC3 friendly, and I should probably be less judgy but this is the channel that brought us Dog Borstal, after all. They're also redoing the vampire mythos stuff (Adrien Lester's role is also being recast), which I think is a better idea: there wasn't anything wrong with what they were doing with it, but it did run the risk of constantly reminding me of the vampire groupies from Buffy's Lie To Me. Something more interesting would be good, but basically as long as they don't sparkle or anything we're fine.

In better TV-related news, Tom Baker presenting Have I Got News For You on 31st October! I thought last week's was rather lacklustre; hopefully this one will be better.

shinyjenni: Wonder Woman deflects bullets with her bracelets (dayna green)
1. Apparently the BBC have decided to celebrate my birthday by ordering a six part Being Human series for BBC3. Well done, chaps.

2. Not to be outdone, Sky are planning a remake of Blake's 7. Dear Sky, do not make a hash of this or I will AV YER. Hugs and kisses, me. That being said I am actually vaguely optimistic about this. Done right, it could be pretty good.

3. Argh, all of the students seem to have left their brains at home today. Even the person who phoned up to renew his books hadn't considered that maybe he might need his library card to do so. Sigh.
