God's War
I was half convinced I wasn't going to like this, because I'd heard it was pretty grim, and, well, it was (there is one death that I am NOT OK WITH). But it also threw me headfirst into a sf setting and let me flail around trying to work out what was going on (I really love this kind of thing and I don't know why), AND gave me a grumpy, violent female protagonist in her thirties who strongly objects to the idea of having feelings, and it turns out that those two things made me happy enough to counteract the stuff I didn't like. <3

There Will Be Phlogiston
This OT3 romance novella set in sort of Regency-England-with-magic was a complete delight! Just a sheer rush of joy all the way through. <3

Ninefox Gambit
Epic SF with great characters and worldbuilding and casual queerness all over the place! I'll take twelve.

Didn't finish: With the Lightnings
This book is set in space and one of the protagonists is an asexual librarian, so I really wanted to like it, but sadly it was just really badly written - infodumps everywhere - and I just couldn't be bothered.

A short story I enjoyed this month:
Extracurricular Activities - Yoon Ha Lee: The last section of this felt a little rushed, but otherwise it was great. Space shenanigans where everyone's queer! YES PLEASE THIS PLEASE

The phlogiston experiment is about the only part of school chemistry I remember... probably because it was historical. Something to read, certainly.
